FAST FLOWING FRESH WATER
The temperature, fast flow and freshness of the water create healthier, fitter fish.
Water flow at the farm is some 130 cumecs (cubic metres per second) or about 7.8 million litres per minute. This water flow reduces any buildup of waste products and means that the water quality remains pristine after it leaves the farm.
Wind turbulence created on the canal surface ensures a high level of water oxygenation that is beneficial to salmon health and growth.
The water temperature is ideally suited to the culture of salmon, seasonally ranging from six to 16 degrees Celsius.
DRINKING QUALITY WATER
The water's of drinking quality, even after it leaves the farm.
The sheer isolation of the farm means the water is pristine, with no external agricultural, human or environmental pollution.
The glacial water that supplies the Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon farm is pure, clean and in terms of quality rivals even the best-bottled waters. Cleaner water is not found anywhere else in the world.
The Resource Management Act, administered by Environment Canterbury, ensures water quality is unaffected by adjacent land use and protects it from pathogens that are found elsewhere in the salmon farming world.
The water is sourced from New Zealand’s remote Southern Alps and their associated glaciers, making for an uninterrupted source of pristine water.
