MACKENZIE BASIN

The MacKenzie basin is one of the most stunning regions in the world.

Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon is situated in the MacKenzie Basin, on the eastern side of the Southern Alps in the South Island of New Zealand. The farm is close to the town of Twizel and is situated at an altitude of 600 metres. It is located just off the scenic route on SH8 about halfway between Christchurch and Queenstown.

MacKenzie Basin is a year-round destination for domestic and international visitors who participate in water sports on the lakes, skiing on the surrounding mountains and just relaxing and soaking in the remarkable views and clean, fresh air.

ALPINE WILDERNESS

There is only alpine wilderness between the salmon farm and the mountains.

The Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon farm is in a hydro canal used for power generation. These continually flowing canals are fed directly from mountain lakes fed in turn by glaciers and alpine rain.

Mt. Cook Alpine Salmon Ltd holds the exclusive rights to farm fish in the Tekapo and Ohau canals.

The canals range in length from 12 to 35 kilometres and 40 to 90 metres in width, supplying millions of litres of water per minute.
